The pyramids and the Sphinix is one of Egypt’s top tourist centres. The last surviving of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Great Pyramid of Giza. There are in fact, three main pyramid of Giza; The Great Pyramid of Hhufu (or Cheops), The Great Pyramid of Khafre and the smaller Pyramid of Menkaura. Each Pyramid is a tomb to a different king of Egypt. In front of the pyramids lies the Sphinix, or Abu al-Hol in Arabic, “Father of Terror”. Carved out of a single block of stone, this enormous cat-like square sculpture has mesmerized millions of visitors. Giza’s three pyramids and the Sphinixs were thought to have been constructed in the fourth dynasty of Egypt’s Old Kingdom.
The Victoria Falls are one of the greatest natural wonders of the World. The Victoria Falls lies in Zambia and Zimbabwe in Southern Africa . the Falls are part of national parks, Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park in Zambia and Victoria Falls National Park in Zimbabwe. The Victoria Falls are just over a mile wide (1.7km) and 355 feet(108m) high. During the wet season over 500 millon litres (19 million cubic feet) of water plemments over the edge into the Zambezi River. The best time t view the Victoria Falls is during the rainy season from March to May.
The Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya’s premier wildlife park. It was established in 1961 to protect wildlife from hunters. The Masai Mara is the reason many visitors come to Kenya and its beauty and abundant wildlife. The Masai Mara is located in southwestern Kenya on the border of Tanzania. The reserve is situated in the Rift valley with Tanzania’s Serengenti Plains running along its southern end. Most of the Masai Mara is made up of hilly grassland which is fed by plentiful rain, especially during the wet months between November and June. The areas bordering the Mara River are forested and are home to several hundred bird species.
Aburi Botanical Gardens is a botanical garden in Aburi in Eastern region of South Ghana. The garden occupies an area of 64.8 hectares. It was opened in March, 1890. Before the garden was established, it was the site of a sanatorium built in 1875 for Gold Coast government officials. During the governorship of William Brandford-Griffith, a Basel missionary supervised clearing of land around the sanatorium to start the Botanic Department. In 1890 William Crowther, a student from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, was appointed the garden’s first curator. The gardens played an important role in encouraging cocoa production in South Ghana, by supplying cheap cocoa seedlings and information about scientific farming methods. After Hevea brasiliensis was sent to Aburi from Kew in 1893, the gardens also encouraged rubber production in Ghana.
The Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and memorial park is located in downtown Accra, the capital of Ghana. It is dedicated to the prominent Ghanaian leader Kwame Nkrumah. The mausoleum designed by Don Aurthur, houses the body of Dr Kwame Nkrumah and his wife Fathia Nkrumah, it is meant to represent an upside down sword which in the Akan culture is a symbol of peace. The mausoleum is clad from top to bottom with Italian marble, with a black star at its apex to symbolize unity. The interior of the Mausoleum boasts marble flooring and a mini mastaba looking marble grave marker surrounded by river washed rocks.
A skylight at the top in the Mausoleum illuminates the grave, and at the right time, seems to reflect off the marble further emphasizing that beauty many have come to fall in love with. The Mausoleum is surrounded by water which is a symbol of life. Its presence conveys a sense of immortality for the name Nkrumah. It shows that even in death he lives on in the hearts and minds of generations here and generations yet to come.
Djenne, is one of sub-Saharan Africa’s oldest cities, founded in 800 AD. There are famous mosque that aare made of mud, and is one of the UNESCO sites, namely Djenne Mosque. Located on the Island in the Niger River Delta, Djenne was a natural hub for traders who shuttled their goods between Sahara desert and the forests of Guinea. Through the years Djene also became a centre of Islamic learning and its market square is still dominated by the beautiful Grand Mosque. Djenne is located a few hundred miles downstream Timbuktu.
Cape Town in South Africa is one of the world’s most beautiful cities. When you visit Cape Town you’ll see a huge slab of sand stone, 1086m high and 3kn long, smack in the middle of the town – that is Table Mountain. Table Mountain’s top is often shrouded in clouds commonly known as the mountain’s “table cloth”. The mountain is home to more than 1400 unique species of plants as well as several mammals and over 100 invertebrates. The views of Cape Town and its coastline from the top are spectacular. Cape Town became the top tourist attraction in South Africa.
Located at the foot of the Atlas Mountains, the important imperial city of Marrakech is also enchanting, full of history, the cultural centre of Morocco and beautiful. If you enjoy a daily assault on all your senses then you’ll have a lot of fun. When the most popular sites include numerous references to “tranquillity” and “peace” like the Majorelle gardens or the gardens around the Saadian Tombs you know you’re in for an interesting experience.
