On February 28, 2013 history was made in the annals of the Roman Catholic Church when the office of the Pope was declared vacant following the unusual resignation of Pope Benedict XVI, the first in nearly 600 years of election of Head of the 1.2 billion Catholic faithful world-wide. Before now, no Pope succeeds a living Pope.

That 115 Cardinals gathered at the Vatican City and elected a new Pope barely 12 days before the Esther and after a second balloting was a testimony of Divine intervention. The new Pope prior to his election is Jorge Mario Cardinal Bergoglio, the Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Argentina, who assumed the title of Pope Francis the first. The new Catholic Pontif and uncommon Pope is our cover story in this edition. Barely one week after the euphoria of the inauguration of Pope Francis the 1^st, the world was shocked by the news of the demise of globally acclaimed literary colossus, Professor Chinua Achebe, the author of, things fall apart, among others. Infrastructural Deficiency in most African states in a clog in the wheel of the continent’s transformation and development despite the formation of 5 major economic integration blocks in Africa. Hopefully, this will be x-rayed at the may 8-10^th 2013, World Economic Forum on Africa due to hold in South Africa. The gathering is another window for Africa’s sustainable development.
