The Uneasy Calm In Togo

Togo has been ruled by a dynasty beginning from Colonel Gnassingbe Eyadema, who came to power in 1967 after he overthrown Nicholas Grunitzky through coup.

Unfortunately for him after being in power for 38yrs, his regime was truncated in 2005. The expected new lease of life did not come as his son; Faure Essozinma Eyadema took over the helms of affairs. Unlike his father he had no military training but had best education in United States and France. The young man involved from a dictator to a democratic President after introducing political reforms that gave birth to multi-party democracy in Tog. It seems people are fed up of the Eyadema dynasty since Ghana and Nigeria has changed leadership through ballot system.

ADVENT OF MILITARY REGIMES

The Late Eyadema influenced the army made it possible for him to hold on to power for nearly four decades. It was his familiarity with the army that endured him to power, thus he practiced dictatorship and quasi-democracy. He was the founder of Rally of Togolese people (RTP) political party. He used agreed, African magic to tele guide other political parties in Togo, under the guise of communism thus subjecting people to torture an inhuman treatment.

In a bid to groom his son into politics, Eyadema appointed Faure as Minister of Mines and Post and Telecommunication in 2003. He used his influenced to Familianze Faure with the military and when he died in 2005; his son took over control of the states. After two months of resignation, Faure conducted election in April 24, 2005. He won the Presidential election. The defeat of Jean-Piere Fabre in 2005 left the union of forces of change (UFC) to form a coalition with the ruling party to form National Alliance for change.

Having spurred the nation to believe in his doctrines and for the army to support his regime.

The people are tired that a family will hold on power for years without cognizance of what people may need and revolt, this culminated to the cry for a new political order for change. The people went to street, protesting for new constitution for term limit for the office of President. The authorities began a crack down on protesters and in the process few were killed. But those in other countries now used the social media to protest and demand for change. The uprising came two months to his election as chairman of Ecowas, and citizens wants him to emulate after leaders. It was the consent of the consent of the people that a conference of Isreal-Africa be hosted by Togo. The participation of isreal-Africa submit is intended to promote trade, trade, security and diplomatic sector to meet, through Togo was highly endorsed as a genuine hut Ecowas. There is no likelihood that Faure intends to stay longer in governance like his father but was forced to inherit the political sins of his father. Although his father survived plane crashed and attempts to assassinate him, the medical team removed bullets from his body perhaps this incident propels him to constitute a forum which produced Joseph Kokuo Koffigoh as Prime Minister thus rendered him redundant as a Ceremonial President. The people are determined to have a CHANGE but not as Faure may demand peaceful coexistence within the Togolese, which prompted them to stage a public protest and the president is seeking for international roles to his office. The situation will no doubt develop to war if he fails to amend the constitution giving rooms for others to lead and fine tune a system that will gain recognition among the people. Ecowas members must not fold their hands and watch with keen development in Togo but must give an immediate solutions that he should not contest election after second terms of five years each but to ensure that democracy exists in the norms of standard of modern day government. In summation thereof, it is highly important France step in as the colonial – Master of Togo and bring about new constitution that enabled other citizens to contest election into the office of No PRESIDENT not to be exclusively the property of a family in Togo “THE EYADEMA” and Ecowas in this trying period.
